This is either to children, grandchildren or other lineal descendant. It can include stepchildren, children who have been fostered or adopted, or where you have been appointed special guardian of. Additionally, a spouse or civil partner of a lineal descendant, such as their widow or surviving civil partner. Select ‘yes’ if you are married or in a civil partnership and the intention is to transfer any of your unused residence nil rate band to them when you die.

This calculator is not an exact representation of how much Inheritance Tax might be due on your estate upon death. The result is based on the figures you put into the calculator and current tax rules. It does not include any nuance of Inheritance Tax rules that might affect your personal circumstances. It’s important to remember that tax rules can change at any time.
